Starting and stopping a broker process from the command line
You must follow specific steps to start and stop a broker process from the command line.

To start and stop a broker process from the command line at the DOS shell prompt:
- Set the environment variable
ODBSRVto the name of the executable (including the path) of the DataServer for ODBC. Be sure to set this variable on the host machine.- To start the DataServer broker process, enter the following command at the system prompt on your Windows host machine. Select a value for
service–namefrom the list of available services in your\windows-install-dir\system32\drivers\etc\servicesfile:
For example, the following command uses the default broker executable. The service name demosv is a service listed in that file:
- To stop the broker process, enter this command:
After you start the Windows broker process, you are ready to start an OpenEdge client on a PC running Windows or on a UNIX machine. See the "Starting the Windows client process" section or the "Starting the UNIX client process" section for instructions.
